The very reason why I came to this website is because I am considering using Bing instead of google as my main search engine. The very reason I don't like google is that they violate our privacy tremendously. Many websites you go to for some reason have googleanalytics.com or google syndication as part of the scripts that are monitoring everything we do. That is creepy and it is also naive that they don't plan to do something "evil" with all the information about us. If anything they are collecting information without our express consent and then seeking to profit from it without compensating us. That alone is dishonest.
I have to say the author of this article is tremendously naive if they think the things that provide us information and entertainment aren't already used for socio-political engineering. What do you call the main stream news for goodness sakes? Are you unaware of how during the Bush administration spied upon Americans partly to threaten and harass dissenters? The government's no fly lists and "harass this person at borders and airports"-lists have more political activists on them than they do anyone that could be a threat to anyone. They are totally used to bully and intimidate whistleblowers and increase the power of crooked governments.
Now so for these reasons Bing could excell. If they made their privacy policy rock solid where EVERYONE's information and NO ONE'S indentity, IPs, or search terms are logged anywhere then they would be like the pied piper. People would leave google in droves. Search engines should not be used to help third parties spy on people. There are legal means for doing that.
