Bush Exec Order: Seize Property of Activists

Filed under: Politics — Shel Horowitz, Ethical Marketing Expert @ 6:42 pm

Why wasn’t this all over the media?

George W Bush has signed an Executive Order giving broad powers to seize property and block financial transactions from anyone who even donates money to any person or group that the government feels is opposing an orderly reconstruction in Iraq.

How Big Brother can you get? This is a serious threat to the liberty of activists nationwide. George Orwell must be spinning in his grave.

Go and read the order: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/07/20070717-3.html

And then tell people about it.

  1. The key phrase seems to be, “any person determined … to have committed, or to pose a significant risk of committing, an act or acts of violence..” The seizures, etc. are all consequences of that determination. So it all hinges on what constitutes “violence,” which is left undefined. It might include breaking windows at a bring-the-troops-home demonstration, or resisting arrest. Indeed this is scary.
